People of Grand Marais were at the community center on Saturday to honor one of their most distinguished past residents. The community center was renamed after Frank W. Mead. Many gathered at the center for a short ceremony in which people who knew Mead spoke about his deeds in the community. Mead was instrumental in helping establish the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Park, funding for the marina, and countless other achievements in the community.
"Of all the achievements that my father was responsible for this was the one that he was most proud of because he liked the fact that this was a place where people gathered," Frank Mead's Daughter Katie Mead said. "it was special to him so it's really moving for our family to have this building named in his honor."
The community center has also undergone recent renovations including a new paint job.
