Grant program awards money to Upper Peninsula fire departments

Michigan's U.S. Senators expressed support for Upper Michigan fire departments on Thursday as a grant program is bringing money to two fire departments.

Senators Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin expressed their support for Ishpeming and Ironwood Fire Departments in an announcement on Thursday.

"Across Michigan, our firefighters provide brave and crucial services to communities like Ishpeming and Ironwood," said Senator Stabenow.

She added that the grants coming to those departments will help fund resources and tools needed to perform duties effectively and safely.

"Every day, our first responders stand ready to protect lives and property," added Senator Carl Levin. "This grant will help provide the Ishpeming and Ironwood Fire Departments with the support they need to protect their communities."

Ishpeming Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Edward Anderson expressed his thanks to the senators, and welcomed the equipment upgrades.

"These new air packs will have several new features that will help keep our firefighters safe for years to come," said Anderson.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant program will bring $57,958 to the Ishpeming Volunteer Fire Department and $40,375 is going to the Ironwood Public Safety Department.
