Marquette Township kicked off the Christmas season and took care of someone looking to spoil the holiday mood Tuesday. The annual Township Tree Lighting brought out the holiday spirit at the Westwood Mall. The Marquette Redmen Chorale started things by singing traditional Christmas carols in front of the crowd.
Things took a turn, however, when the Grinch showed up. Marquette County Sheriffs quickly apprehended the Grinch. After that, Santa Claus took the stage to light the tree.
"We put on events that are free, family oriented and loaded with fun for our community. It's just a way to get into the holiday spirit, Christmas spirit, and come out and enjoy everybody," said organizer LeAnne Kachmarsky.
After the tree lighting, Santa went inside where he posed for pictures with the kids. Hot chocolate, cookies and some Christmas cheer helped warm up the crowd.
