Grocery store offers rides to those in need

Louie's Fresh Market in Calumet is now offering free shuttle rides to their store, and it's for people in the community who are otherwise unable to get to the store.

Shuttle rides will be available to and from the store every Monday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The free service is open to anyone within a 10-mile distance of the store.

People can call the store any time of the week to schedule a pickup, and the shuttle bus will soon have a wheelchair lift in operation.

Store directors say they plan to keep this a year-round service for those who need a little extra help getting around.

"With the severe winters we have up here, we don't need anybody walking outside on the road, and there are a lot of people out there that just need a pickup ride to the store to pick groceries up or even hardware products," said Nick Meneguzzo, store director.

To schedule a pickup from Louie's, call their store at (906) 337- 2311.
