Venerable Bishop Baraga is known for the work he did with the people from the U.P. That work continues to be honored. Tuesday at St. Peter Cathedral, Archbishop Sample and parishioners gathered to break ground for the new Bishop Baraga Chapel. The chapel is a way to celebrate Baraga's ministry. It will also house his remains.
"It's that his life is an example how we Christians should live our lives. That's what it really means and the chapel is a place that we'll be able to come to pray," said Parishioner, Ed Glowacki.
Construction will start when the ground thaws. The plan is to have the chapel built by October. So far fundraising efforts have come up with half of the $500,000 needed to complete the project.
