Gwinn school's Superintendent Mike Maino recently announced his intent to retire, so Tuesday night the school board interviewed their first candidate to replace him.
The board interviewed Kim VanDrese, who is currently the Gwinn Middle School principal. If hired, VanDrese could intern with Maino before he retires within the next year. Although she says the situation is win-win for her, VanDrese says she brings something new to the position.
"I think I bring an energy and a passion for this district that we had to have in these troubled times. I have some innovative ideas, I have a staff behind me that is ready to do some new things, and I think it's time to do those things," said VanDrese.
The board stated it will make its decision whether to hire VanDrese for superintendent by Monday.
