Sun, 28 Jul 2013 04:44:39 GMT — Champion residents celebrated a very special birthday Saturday. It was Champion's birthday. The small town in western Marquette County is now 150 years old. Volunteers organized a parade for the sesquicentennial around Berle LaPin Veterans Memorial Park. Afterwards, visitors learned a bit about Champion's history and then they cut the cake. Some Champion residents who attended the 100th anniversary celebration in 1963 stood together for a photo. "Well I just love it. It's so exciting for a little town like this to be doing what they're doing," said Aili Hanks, one of Champion's oldest residents. Organizers say the event was a big success and that it was an excellent opportunity for neighbors to bond as a community.
