      Hazardous driving across the U.P.

Roads across Upper Michigan are icy and covered with hard-packed snow. This makes for slippery driving conditions.

Michigan State Police report reduced areas of visibility due to blowing snow. Drivers could find themselves in white-outs in seconds.

There is persistent north-northwest winds and snow falling along Lake Superior on M-28 between Marquette and Munising. Highway speeds have been greatly reduced. M-28 remains open at this hour, but conditions are expected to worsen this afternoon into Saturday night.

US-2 in the eastern U.P. between M-77 and St. Ignace reopened Saturday morning. The Mackinac Bridge is open.

Motorists should use extreme caution. Authorities say non-essential travel is not recommended in areas prone to lake effect snow and blowing snow.

Take your time. Expect your travel plans to take longer than normal. Be aware of fast changing conditions.
