Roads across Upper Michigan are icy and covered with hard-packed snow. This makes for slippery driving conditions.
Michigan State Police report reduced areas of visibility due to blowing snow. Drivers could find themselves in white-outs in seconds.
There is persistent north-northwest winds and snow falling along Lake Superior on M-28 between Marquette and Munising. Highway speeds have been greatly reduced. M-28 remains open at this hour, but conditions are expected to worsen this afternoon into Saturday night.
US-2 in the eastern U.P. between M-77 and St. Ignace reopened Saturday morning. The Mackinac Bridge is open.
Motorists should use extreme caution. Authorities say non-essential travel is not recommended in areas prone to lake effect snow and blowing snow.
