Golfers were out in full force to help some of their breast friends in Chocolay Township. The Breast Friends Golf Outing was held Sunday at Gentz's Homestead Golf Course. Beginning with a shotgun start, the golfers played a nine hole scramble and ended with lunch at The Dry Dock.
Money raised from the tournament goes toward the Breast Friends Fund. The fund helps women that might not be able to afford breast screening and after care needs.
"It's the only part of our money that goes to it and it's the only vision they have for this money. So it's directly there. There's no administration fees, they use it directly just for the people that need the care for it," said Nate Noble, a tournament director.
The outing raised around $7,000 for the Breast Friends Fund. For about five years the golf outing has been raising money for breast cancer awareness. Proceeds just started to go towards the Breast Friends Fund a couple of years ago in an effort to keep the money local.
