Highway accident requires Jaws of Life

A two-vehicle accident in Iron Mountain Monday afternoon required the Jaws of Life to rescue one of the victims.

It happened on US-2 across from the Home Depot at around 2 p.m. when an SUV, driven by a 53-year-old Norway woman, pulled out onto the highway and was struck by a vehicle driven by a 22-year-old Norway woman traveling westbound.

The Jaws of Life rescue tool was used to pry open the SUV door to extricate the 53-year-old woman inside. She was taken by Beacon Ambulance to Dickinson County Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The 22-year-old woman also sought treatment at the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The Iron Mountain Police Department and Fire Department were assisted by the Breitung Township Fire Department, the Beacon Ambulance Service, the Dickinson County Sheriff's Department, and the Michigan State Police.

The 53- year-old woman was cited for failing to yield the right of way.
