On Tuesday, Upper Michigan veterans met face-to-face with over 50 employers in a job fair at the Ishpeming Armory.
It was one of five fairs held in the State of Michigan for Operation Vet Connection. Governor Rick Snyder spearheaded the initiative aimed at connecting veterans with employers and aiding their transition from military duty to civilian career.
"I haven't had a whole lot of job opportunities," said Leah Owens, a member of the Ishpeming National Guard. "Iâ??m looking for something more permanent."
This is the second year for the fair, and the number of employers in attendance doubled from 24 to 57. Everything, from federal jobs to banking, was up, available and ready to be filled.
"We are looking for people who are disciplined and are self-starters," stated Debra Decon with Bankers Life and Casualty. "Figured a veteranâ??s job fair was a good place to recruit."
