School may be out for summer, but some area kids got to brush up on their history at the Park Cemetery in Marquette Thursday.
The Marquette Regional History Center held its Tombstone Detectives cemetery tour. The group saw volunteers from the history center portray historical figures from Marquette's past. The tour also included tombstone rubbings and a scavenger hunt.
"We hope that children will realize that a cemetery is a place where history is recorded and that it might not be such a frightening place but also a place to really learn a lot of interesting history about Marquette," said Rosemary Michelen, the History Center's Director. "Everyone likes to hear a really good story, and so we're hoping today that we'll have some really interesting stories about Marquette."
Stories from a local photographer, author, and professional wrestler recalled Marquette's rich history. The history center has a number of events planned for the summer. For a full list, click here.
