Hockey teams need help raising money for new locker room

Student athletes from Houghton High School's boys and girls hockey teams are raising money for new locker rooms.

Both teams practice at Dee Stadium, and while the boys' locker room is completed, construction is in the beginning stages for the girls' locker room.

The total project will cost around $150,000. Over $30,000 was already donated to help with locker room renovations by professional hockey player Jeff Finger and local businesses.

The high school athletes are selling $30 raffle tickets to help raise enough money.

â??Every community, every function, are doing different things for fundraising, and we understand that. We don't want to be hitting the well too often and asking the same people to donate stuff, so we want to finish this off, and we're really pushing this raffle and trying to get this done,â?? said Corey Markham, boys' head hockey coach.

The drawing will be held December 27, and tickets can be purchased from any hockey player.

You can also purchase tickets from the following locations throughout the city of Houghton:

      Auto Pro Glass & Tire

      Center Ice Skate & Sport

      State Farm Insurance
