The homebuilders market is doing better across the nation and locally. The National Association of Home Builders index is up to 55 points compared to last month's 53 points.
Lynn Swadley, president of Sunrise Builders says it's because of an increase buyer confidence. Last year they built 20 homes anticipating the demand would increase and they've exceeded their goal. Currently they have eight homes under construction compared to this time last year when they had five. Swadley says with Marquette County, it all comes down to a stronger economy.
"With the hospital and the medical community, mining and tourism we have a lot of positive things that are encouraging and sustaining our growth here," says Swadley. "The home market responds positively to that."
He also says cheaper financing is a contributing factor for many home buyers with interest rates at historic lows.
