Hometowne Lumber, a business that supports athletes

Hometowne Lumber, or now Hometowne Building Supply in Kingsford originally opened in 1926 under the name Isley Hardware and Fuel. Today, Hometowne Lumber has grown and expanded to become a multiple-facility business. They can help with projects inside the house, from countertops and cabinets, to tile and flooring.

â??We do everything on the outside; stone, siding, windows, doors, insulation, drywall,â?? said owner, Joe Bronzyk.

In the late 1990's, Joe purchased the business and it's grown from 12 employees to over 20.

â??I like doing it,â?? said employee John Chiamulera. â??I like being outside, I like the physical work. I like dealing with people, you meet new people every day.â??

In addition to the lumber yard, they also have a kitchen and bath showroom.

â??Itâ??s grown into a 6,000 square foot showroom with everything in it, so you can come down, touch it, see it, and price it,â?? Bronzyk said.

Besides providing the community with quality equipment and materials, they also give back to area athletes by hosting the annual Athlete of the Year banquet.

â??At the end of the year, we pick a male and a female Athlete of the Year; we have a banquet and they each get a scholarship to the college that theyâ??re going to,â?? Bronzyk said. â??Their name goes on the wall up at the front of the hardware store and I think it's a real nice feel-good thing; something we can do to give back. We believe in shopping local and we support that very much. We like to give back to the community that has supported us over the last almost 100 years.â??
