A complete remodel is underway at the Holiday Inn Express in Houghton.
As the walls inside each room are prepped, a painter grabs his roller and starts covering the white wall with a fresh coat of paint.
â??Every surface in the hotel is getting refinished, from the walls, to carpeting, to tile, to the ceilings, to drywall, to beds and even mattresses. Everything is going to be redone. Itâ??s going to be brand new,â?? said Charlie Holsworth, representative from Veridea.
It is out with the old and in with the new. In February, the hotel was purchased by a company named Veridea, and after a few months of planning, the hotel renovations are finally in motion.
This million dollar project is a bit of a challenge because even though the hotel is under construction, they are still accommodating guests.
â??We had to do some extra work to be able to shut down one floor at a time, and we have been working with some great contractors. We want to be able to offer our services to our guests as though it was normal, and yet in a month, when they come back, we want to give them a totally new place to lay their head at night,â?? Holsworth said.
Not only are all 61 rooms getting a facelift, the hotel lobby will also have a completely new look. One area will have a wood tile floor; another area will have ceramic tile.
The hotel says their goal is to have everything done by the end of June, just in time for their busy season.
