Relay for Life is coming to Houghton High School this Friday, and this year, Houghton was chosen by the American Cancer Society to participate in a cancer study.
Houghton and Sault Saint Marie are the only two cities in the U.P. to be chosen for the study that will look at how environment affects cancer.
The donation goal for Houghton's Relay this year is $105,000, and teams were required to hand in their collections Wednesday.
Coordinators said this year is special because the community will be a part of the research they are raising money for.
â??Check out the relay, check out the study,â?? said Cancer Prevention Study chair person, Laurie Stark. â??It's going to be a pretty great event. With having the research here this year, we actually get to see where our dollars are going every year when we have the relay.â??
Relay for Life takes place at the high school Friday at 1 p.m. through Saturday.
To be a part of the cancer study, you can register at Relay for Life from 5p.m. until 9 p.m.
