Houghton City Manager announces plans to step down

Houghton City Manager, Scott MacInnes, announced in the Wednesday evening city council meeting that he plans to step down next February.

MacInnes has worked for the city since 1974, starting as the recreation director and becoming the assistant city manager under Ray Kestner in 1980. He has been the city manager since 1997.

MacInnes says his contract officially expires December 31, 2014, but the city council felt it was best to hire someone for the position by February 1 to be able to set the budget for the following year.

MacInnes says he hopes his work with the city is not finished after he steps down.

â??Iâ??m looking forward to working with the new manager,â?? says MacInnes. â??I think there's a lot of exciting things yet for us to do, and the possibility of staying on part time on something in the future working on special projects, I think Iâ??d be very interested in doing that, and if that doesn't happen, I will be out looking for part-time work somewhere else.â??

The council says they will begin collecting resumes for the position through November 5.
