Firefighters responded to a house fire Thursday in Negaunee.
The owner of a house on 817 Maas Street returned home to find fire and smoke coming from his house. He then called 911. He was able to get his dog out of the residence. Both he and the dog were in good condition and did not seek medical assistance.
The owner was a self-loader and gunsmith, so there was ammunition in the house. The firefighters were able to contain the fire within 45 minutes without incident.
No injuries were reported. There was extensive heat and fire damage reported in the kitchen where the fire started.
The Negaunee Fire Department was assisted by the Marquette County Rescue 131 and the Marquette Township Fire Department in putting out the fire.
