Hundreds burned off calories for a cause

      YMCA Run Walk

The snow didn't stop hundreds from attending the Marquette YMCA's 13th Annual Run Walk Saturday morning.

Over 500 athletes, young and old, put their running shoes on and burned off some calories for a cause.

The event raises money for the YMCA Strong Kids Scholarship Campaign. The money is used for kids who normally wouldn't be able to take part in membership programs.

"I love the fact that the fundraising for this is going towards keeping the community fit and active," says Kelsey Haasch , a 20-year-old NMU student from Kalamazoo, MI. "I think that's a really important aspect of life, and I think it's great that the YMCA provides that opportunity for members of the community."

Runners and walkers could choose from a 5k, 10k or a 10-mile race.

The annual event fundraises over $5,000 every year.
