Hundreds come out to the annual Marquette Turkey Trot

Hundreds in the Marquette community were out early Thursday morning for their Turkey Trot and Fun Run, which started at Marquette Senior High School.

The annual turkey day event brought out a large crowd of runners, walkers and four legged friends to participate in the 5k and 10k routes.

One-hundred-fifty participants pre-registered for the turkey trot and hundreds more registered on site.

The turkey trot is the school's biggest fundraiser that helps to fund the high school's orchestra.

Faculty and students from Marquette Senior High School's business class collaborated with the arts department to organize the event.

Organizers and community members agree that the fundraiser and the arts are an important benefit to the high school and the local community.

"I think that the arts in the high school are very important. they amplify, they get people exposed to music" said runner, Jacob Silver.

Some participants also donated food for the TV6 Canathon.
