On Saturday, close to 300 kids dropped their lures at the 22nd Annual Kids Fishing Derby in Rapid River.
The event aims to introduce kids to the sport of fishing while also encouraging them to spend time outdoors.
All children 16 and younger were allowed to try their fisherman skills for free in the two trout ponds provided.
Amanda Barron, 8, says she was "a little scared" when it came up to her lure. "I was shaking and I also was very excited," Amanda happily admitted.
The annual event has helped 5,300 kids catch their first fish.
