      Hung jury in stabbing trial

After more than five hours of deliberations, a jury could not reach a verdict in the trial of an 18-year-old Marinette man accused of stabbing another man in late July.

The judge declared a hung jury Friday evening. Dakota James Paris was charged with felonious assault.

The case was tried in Menominee because that's where the fight took place. The fight broke out between two groups of people and ended with a 24-year-old man being hospitalized for a stab wound.

The prosecutor said Paris escalated the degree of defense by using a knife, but the defense attorney said Paris was outnumbered in the fight.

Paris is free on bond. A pretrial is set for January 9.
