One of the oldest fishing derbies in the Upper Peninsula takes center stage this weekend in northern Marquette County.
This will be the 29th year the Big Bay 550 Snowmobile Club Fishing Derby will offer local anglers a competitive weekend of fishing.
Saturday and Sunday, Lake Independence will be packed with hundreds of people trying to catch the biggest fish. And those that succeed will be rewarded.
"In each category, we have a Pike, a Walleye, and a Perch and $100 for first prize, $75 for second, and $25 for third prize," said Joe Cram President of the Snowmobile Club.
The Ice Fishing Derby kicks off Friday morning at eight o'clock.
Registration buttons are five dollars.
All proceeds go toward maintaining the trails and equipment for the snowmobile club.
