A historic garden in Grand Marais is drawing visitors from all over the state. The Pickle Barrel Historic Iris Garden is the only Historic Iris Preservation Society Display Garden in Michigan. Irises in the garden date back to 1813. Different kinds of Irises found in the garden include Flavescence and Siberian Irises.
" H istoric Irises are special because they're old, they're unusual and they are endangered ," Gardener Nancy Mcdonald said. "P eople love them for their nostalgia value, for their beauty, and for their special qualities that modern plants don't have."
T he garden will have a tour on July 26 and the historical society will be selling Irises on August 16.
