The Iron Industry Museum kicked off their â??Afternoons at the Museumâ?? program on Tuesday with a lecture related to Pioneer Week.
Local author and researcher Bob Dodson discussed his latest work on â??Local Mines and Mining during the Great Depression and World War IIâ??. Dobson has nine other books as well as other published works all related to U.P. history.
â??This is an annual feature of the museumâ?? said Troy Henderson, museum historian. â??Generally every July and August we have speakers come to the museum on Tuesday afternoons and present to the public on research or writings on topics related to U.P. history.â??
The series will run through August 19. Next weekâ??s program will focus on Michigan Gold and Silver: Mining in the Upper Peninsula. For more information on the programs offered at the museum, visit www.michigan.gov/ironindustrymuseum or call 906-475-7857.
