Water customers in the City of Iron River are being urged to run water in their homes and businesses. Water lines are freezing due to the extreme depth of the frost in the ground.
Residents are asked to run cold water through the faucet, the diameter of a pencil. The faucet should be farthest from the water meter. The advisory remains in effect until further notice.
The Iron River City Manager says customers will not be charged for the extra water usage. Billing will be based on average consumption of previous billing cycles.
The city is attempting to flush the water distribution system to purge colder water from the system and replace it with warmer well water.
