A major fire in downtown Ishpeming Wednesday night has destroyed Hickey's Bar at 112 East Pearl Street. It started after 11 p.m.
Flames were shooting through the roof of the two-story structure within an hour of the fire starting. It was a fast burning fire due to the building being mainly constructed of wood.
There were customers in the bar when the fire started, but everyone got out safely. Residents of an upstairs apartment were also able to get out.
Firefighters at the scene were concerned with power lines running the length of the building and a power pole in the back corner of the structure. There have been no injuries.
Ishpeming City firefighters were assisted by Ishpeming Township and Negaunee City firefighters, Marquette County Rescue 131, Bell Ambulance and utility companies, UPPCO and SEMCO.
Officials do not have a cause for the fire. Hickey's Bar, however, is a total loss.
