A 13-year-old Ishpeming boy has died, and three others are seriously injured after a two-vehicle crash in Marinette County Friday night, police said.
The accident happened around 11:30 p.m. on US-141 just south of County Highway X in the Town of Middle Inlet. The investigation revealed that a GMC pickup truck pulled out on the highway from a business parking lot and was northbound when it struck a southbound Chevrolet Impala. The 13-year-old boy, a passenger in the Impala, was pronounced dead from his injuries while in route to the hospital. His mother, the 44-year-old driver of the Impala, and his two teenage sisters were treated and transferred to a Green Bay hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The driver of the pickup, a 28-year-old male from Wausaukee, was arrested and lodged in the Marinette County Jail on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing death and serious injury. He was not injured. The crash remains under investigation by the Marinette County Sheriff's Department. Names are withheld at this time.
Wausaukee Rescue, Crivitz Rescue, Middle Inlet Fire, Bay Area Medical Paramedics all assisted the sheriff's department on scene. This is the 11th traffic fatality in Marinette County this year, police said.
