For 100 years Jackson's Hardware in Ishpeming has been serving its customers despite competition from big box retailers.
The store started out with William Jackson selling stock shares to raise capital. He opened up the store on Division Street in the old Globe Printing building. In 1945 they moved to their current location on Main Street where they've been ever since. Current owner John Jackson says over the years the products offered have changed, but the community support has always been strong.
"We've had people that come in with their kids now who came in with their parents, who came in with their parents, this goes back generations," says Jackson. "It's quite an accomplishment; I wouldn't have thought about this some 50 years ago when I started sweeping floors here. We've had good community members and good employees."
The store is hosting a party this Saturday to celebrate the achievement. They'll have food, live music and raffle prizes available from one to 4 p.m.
