Police have arrested a 44-year-old Ishpeming man for allegedly accosting a child for immoral purposes.
The Ishpeming Police Department says that 44-year-old John Wayne Mathews was arrested on Friday after an investigation involved claims of accosting a child for immoral purposes and fourth degree criminal sexual conduct.
The punishment for accosting a child for immoral purposes could lead to four years in prison. The fourth degree criminal sexual conduct charge involving a victim between the ages of 13 and 16 can result in two years in prison. Fourth degree CSC is a touching offense, according to the Ishpeming Police Department.
Mathews was arraigned in court and is being held at the Marquette County Jail on $100,000 cash bond for each charge. He is scheduled to be back in court for a preliminary examination on August 20 at 10:15 a.m.
