The Ishpeming man charged with murder is headed to trial in Marquette County Circuit Court.
According to Ishpeming Police Department, 52-year-old Jack Carpenter of Ishpeming shot 29-year-old David Meyer in June of last year, following an argument. Carpenter claims it was self defense.
At Wednesday's final pretrial, Marquette County Prosecutor Matt Wiese explained that he offered a plea deal that Carpenter rejected.
"I was proposing that Mr. Carpenter plead guilty to the 15 year felony of manslaughter. He is currently charged with open murder and felony firearm. It's my understanding that he has rejected the offer, and we are prepared to go forward with trial on this matter," said Wiese.
The prosecution and defense have until Thursday to complete their evidence and witness lists. The trial has been set for September 24 at 9 a.m.
