      Ishpeming selects new city manager

On Friday morning, the Ishpeming City Council members and Mayor Mike Tall conducted two consecutive interviews which resulted in a motion to offer candidate Mark Slown the position of Ishpeming City Manager.

The City Manager position offer is contingent upon several conditions that the candidate will have to follow. The council will present these conditions to Slown upon the official offer.

"Both gentlemen were competent, but Mr. Slown had much more background in the areas that we needed working with," commented Ishpeming Mayor Mike Tall.

Those areas that the city is most looking forward to improving are infrastructure and getting Ishpeming back on its feet financially. The council members were particularly impressed that Slown had similar concerns about the appearance of the city.

"You've got to look good if you want people to be attracted to you. Ishpeming needs to look better," said Slown.

Slown grew up in Barrington, IL and has a military background serving 27 years in the Air Force. After retiring from the Air Force, he has been involved in other city councils, including city manager for the Village of Oxford in Oakland County, Michigan.
