Jazz was in the air Friday at Northern Michigan University. As a part of their Jazz Appreciation Month, NMU held their 15th Annual Jazz Festival, Friday. Jazz ensembles from more than 25 middle and high schools were present. Some were performing free concerts as others were participating in music education clinics.
"If people like jazz, boy, then this is the place to be. It's great music; it really is a unique American art form. For most people, I think that's what gets them here, but also the educational side of it. Arts education is so important," said NMU Music Professor, Mark Flaherty.
Throughout the last 15 years, jazz education has grown.
