The Marquette Township Planning Commission has approved a special use permit for the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community to build a new gas station and convenient store in Marquette Township.
The proposed project would be built along the south end stretch of Highway 41 in Marquette, next to Gander Mountain.
The approval of a special use permit was a major step in the building process of bringing the KBIC Gas Station to the location.
If all other approvals are permitted, the site planning will begin this year.
"KBIC's next step will be to go to the county and ask for their building permit," said Jason McCarthy, planning and zoning administrator with Marquette Charter Township.
The 1.2 million dollar project has Marquette Charter Township zoning compliance.
They will need to acquire a Marquette County building permit and will be required to follow all applicable state and federal requirements.
