The Keweenaw Convention and Visitor's Bureau is reporting a increase in tourism this summer compared to past years, and attributes it to better marketing like the Pure Michigan campaigns.
Administrators at the Keweenaw CVB say the hard numbers are difficult to calculate, but based on local hotels and stores, there have been more visitors to the area than previously. The Keweenaw CVB notes that there have been more magazines articles as of late reference the area as well.
"We've done the Pure Michigan ad. We've done several tours up into the area; a lot of fan tours where we've had a lot of bloggers and writers come into the area and write and take pictures," says Dianne Peterson, president of the Keweenaw CVB. "In October, we have an eight-page spread coming out in Midwestern Magazine."
The Keweenaw CVB is hoping to have better number calculated in a few months. They are also hoping to have a successful winter as well, and are hoping to have at least two feet of snow for grooming by December.
