Kids offered a chance to become journalists

8-18 Media is looking to welcome its next group of future journalists to the Upper Peninsula Children's Museum.

Next Friday they're hosting a training session for new members. For 20 years, 8-18 Media has been giving kids between the ages of 8 and 18 a chance to write, record and edit their own news stories. According to the director of 8-18, if you know some kids with a nose for news, this program may be for them.

"We're looking for some kids who would like to take part in 8-18 Media. It's a free program of the Upper Peninsula Children's Museum; it runs all year-round," said 8-18 Media Director, Dennis Whitley. "One of the strengths of our program is you can step away and we'll welcome you right back when you're done with whatever it is you're doing. So flexible scheduling is one of the great parts of our program."

8-18 Media also has a bureau in the City of Ishpeming that operates out of the Carnegie Library. The training session will be at the UPCM, June 14, starting at 11 a.m.
