Hundreds of people lined the streets of Ishpeming on Monday to watch the annual Union Parade. The parade helps celebrate past and present union workers and the sacrifices they made to fight for fair benefits and pay. The 25th annual Labor Day Parade is sponsored by the Marquette Alger Community Labor Council. Groups marching included the Michigan Council of Carpenters, the boilermakers, and steelworkers among many others.
"We walk in solidarity in the parade, and we unite and we celebrate Labor Day for workers," Treasurer of the Marquette Alger Community Labor Council said. "We renew our strength to continue the fight for all of the fair wages and benefits."
The parade wound through downtown Ishpeming and helped kick of the Labor Day Festival.
