The South Shore Fishing Association put on their annual Big Brothers Big Sisters and Families Fishing Day at Lakenenland on Saturday. The association estimated that over 150 kids came out with their families to take part in the free fishing event that went from noon to 4PM. South Shore Fishing put about 300 fish in the pond for young anglers to try to catch. Organizers say the event is a way to show kids how fun fishing can be and pass down their favorite sport to their kids.
"It is important to us to have kids come out and fish because kids are the future of fishing and they're the ones who are going to maintain and support our favorite sport," President of South Shore Fishing Association Mylan Koski said.
Eight to Ten fish were tagged and the lucky kids who caught the tagged fish received a gift card from Donkers.
