Lakeview Elementary students got their Halloween holiday started by parading for residents at the Negaunee Senior Apartments Thursday. Starting at about 1:30 p.m., classes made their way to the apartments, showing off their costumes and receiving a treat bag in return. Students in Negaunee have been doing this for more than 20 years. Teachers and staff say the annual parade is a benefit for both the kids and the community.
"We are very fortunate to have this opportunity that not only allows our residents at Lakeview Apartments and community members to appreciate our children and enjoy them, but it allows our children to appreciate the community and all that the community gives to them each and every year," said Lakeview Elementary Principal Julie Peterson.
Teachers and members of the staff dressed up as well. The residents at the Lakeview Apartments spent the last few days bagging up Halloween treats for the kids to take back to their classrooms.
