Eleven workers from Rio Tinto have been laid off.
The majority of the people affected were working in construction. Three workers have been reassigned to other projects. Rio Tinto says the cuts are due to volatility in the commodities market. About 20 percent of the company's work with contractors will also be cut. Meantime, Rio Tinto says work underground at the Eagle Mine continues. The nickel and copper mine is expected to be active by next year.
