The DNR held a beginner's kayaking lesson saturday on Lake Michigamme at Van Riper State Park.
The lesson was part of the DNR's Recreation 101 series where they teach beginners and first timers the basics of a variety of activities before giving them a chance to show off what they've learned.
"It's fun to have other people enjoy something like this. It's not a big, fast vehicle, it's not scary, its very mellow, you get to really enjoy nature and you're not really disrupting anything. And it's a nice workout. So, it really hits all the basics." said kayaking instructor Kayla Ruth.
12 participants excluding the instructors took place in the kayaking lesson. A more advanced lesson was held later in the day.
