Campers at Van Riper State Park learned how to survive in the wild this weekend.
Park rangers hosted the third annual Survival Weekend. People of all ages were invited to attend any of several different training sessions, each with a different focus. One on Saturday afternoon focused on first aid training. Kids learned about what you should carry in your backpack while camping, treating and preventing injuries, and how to purify water in the wild."I personally think this is a great opportunity for the kids to get away from their campsites, learn things that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives. Sometimes they might not take away a whole bunch, but most of the time they take away something that might save their life one day," said summer ranger Kim Randolph. Rangers say they'll hold another Survival Weekend next July.
