Letter carriers collected food to stamp out hunger

U.S. Postal Service letter carriers from around the Keweenaw were hard at work collecting and distributing bags of food to the local food pantries.

The food was donated through the 20th annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive. Thanks to your donations, the CLK Food Pantry in Calumet, Michigan received more than 10,000 pounds food.

Once the volunteers sort through all of the food, they start restocking the food pantry shelves. The CLK pantry helps people in need from Dollar Bay to Copper Harbor.

"Twice a week the food pantry is open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Everybody gets approximately the same amount of food," said CLK Food Pantry Manager Joe Picciano. "All they have to do is sign up and they will get a bag."

Even though the United States Postal Service food drive is over, your donations are always welcome.
