A fundraiser next month in Munising will benefit an outdoor youth program. The Life of Lake Superior Program hosts an annual summer camp on Grand Island that brings children and adults together to explore the beauty of their local environment.
The program is entering its fourteenth year. It's run through the Michigan State University Extension, but local co m mittee members in Munising have become the sole fiscal agents for participants in the Upper Peninsula. They're having a fundraiser on Thursday, June 13 between 6-9 p.m. at Mather Auditorium.
Community member Kendra Symbal has been a part of the program ever since her first child was born nine years ago. She said, "There's so many different levels of involvement where the kids get hands on experience and learn about the history and these natural areas around them that they would grow up kind of immune to on a daily basis."
The event is called the "Shipwreck Showcase" and it will feature guests talking about Lake Superior history and they will also raffle off 25 prizes.
Single ticket is $15.00
