Living statues are coming to Marquette for an exhibit called By the Way of the Water.
Participants will be dressed up as statues posing in downtown Marquette and the lower harbor. The statues bring a historical encounter of the men and women who crossed Lake Superior to build our community.
Renee Kirkenwitz-Moore is the artist transforming the subjects. Those involved are learning techniques behind being a living statue.
"Each living statue participant has been given a character based on the history of the region," said Kristin Frak, movement coordinator. "And their poses, positions and movement are going to be based on that character."
About nine people will be acting as living statues, and the event happens July 20 from 2 to 6 p.m.
