Gogebic Community College in Ironwood has, for the second year, been named as one of the top 10 percent of public community colleges in the nation.
The school joins four other downstate Michigan community colleges in the honor from the Aspen Institute and US Department of Education.
Officials say they've been recognized for their hard work with economically disadvantaged students, and improved their retention rate and graduation rate.
"It's a great honor and really reflects the work that all of the community colleges in Michigan do," said GCC President, James Lorenson. "We take advantage of the best practices that others use and we've tried to implement those on campus so really it also reflects on the good work that all community colleges are doing."
The report honored 120 community colleges nationwide.
