The Alliance Against Violence and Abuse works to improve the lives of those who've been abused, but the facility itself is in desperate need of help from others.
Tamie Cunningham is the interim executive director of the Escanaba facility. She said she recently came across a budget deficit from last year of more than $87,000. I t pays for wages, the mortgage, and operating expenses.
The agency is funded by United Way, federal and state grants, and donations, but they're in desperate need of donations to continue their mission.
"We'll keep our doors open as long as we possibly can," Cunningham said.
"It's just affecting our staffing right now, and for the people that need our assistance, just peace of mind - to give them some self-esteem that they can get through this challenge in their life."
The agency is also encouraging people to stop by and donate new Christmas gifts for the women and children.
