      Looking to learn the law?

The fifth annual People's Law School in the Upper Peninsula is getting ready to begin later this month.

The event educates the public on legal topics like jury selection, workers' compensation, and social security disability. There will also be some discussion on legal issues from current events around the country.

The five weekly sessions are organized by lawyers Pence and Numinen in Marquette along with Northern Michigan University, the Michigan Association of Justice, and the Peter White Public Library, where this year's sessions take place.

"Mostly we want people to understand their rights, their responsibilities as citizens, and to make the process of being a participant, a witness, or a juror a little less terrifying for people," said lawyer Steve Pence.

Registration is $25 for material costs. You can learn more about the People's Law School by clicking here or contact Pence and Numinen at (906) 226-2580.
