      Lost kayaker rescued by police

The Michigan State Police responded to a kayaker that had become lost during an outing on the Baltimore River, east of US-45 in Ontonagon County on Sunday night.

The MSP received a call at around 2:48 a.m. on Monday morning from a 52-year-old Ontonagon man that had become lost after falling out of his kayak. According to police, the man was able to make it to shore and took shelter in an abandoned deer blind, building a fire to keep himself warm.

He was able to call 911 and the Negaunee Regional Dispatch was able to trace his GPS coordinates. A Michigan State Police trooper with a K9 unit was then able to locate the man, and escorted him back safely.

The man was found in good health with no injuries, according to police.
